About the Game

The game starts with Princess Peach inviting Mario to her castle for a cake she has baked for him. When Mario arrives, he finds that Bowser has taken over the castle and imprisoned the princess and her servants using the power of 120 Power Stars. These Stars are hidden in the castle's paintings, which act as portals to other worlds where Bowser's minions guard the Stars. Mario explores the castle and enters these worlds, unlocking more rooms as he collects more Stars. He unlocks doors to different floors of the castle with keys obtained by defeating Bowser in hidden worlds. After collecting at least 70 of the 120 Stars, Mario breaks the curse of the endless stairs that block the way to Bowser's final hiding place. Once Mario defeats Bowser in the final battle, Bowser escapes, swearing revenge. Mario then obtains a special Power Star that gives him the Wing Cap, and he flies back to the castle's courtyard. Princess Peach is freed from the stained-glass window above the castle's entrance, and she rewards Mario with a kiss on the nose and the cake she promised.
